What is TIMO?
The Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad (TIMO) is a prestigious international mathematics competition designed to encourage logical thinking, problem-solving skills, and mathematical excellence among students from primary to high school levels. Organized annually, TIMO provides young learners with an opportunity to challenge themselves through carefully crafted questions that test analytical reasoning, creativity, and advanced mathematical concepts beyond the regular school curriculum.
Recognized by students, parents, and educators worldwide, TIMO helps participants develop confidence in mathematics while competing with talented students from different countries. The competition promotes a deeper understanding of mathematical principles and nurtures critical thinking skills that are valuable for future academic success. TIMO is a two levels based exam – Heats & Finals.
Eligibility for TIMO
Students from Senior KG to 12 are eligible to participate in SEAMO. Different exam papers are designed according to the student’s academic level, ensuring age-appropriate challenges and fair competition.
TIMO Registration Details
Students can participate in TIMO through either their school or an authorized TIMO partner/coaching organization in their country. Individual registration is also available in many regions through the official TIMO registration portal.
Parents can register their child through:
- The student’s school (if the school is participating).
- An authorized TIMO country representative or Olympiad partner.
- The official TIMO registration platform, where individual registration is available.
Registration fees vary by country and local organizer. Parents should check the fee structure announced by their country’s TIMO representative.

TIMO Syllabus
TIMO (Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad) is divided into different groups based on a student’s current grade level to ensure fair competition among participants of similar academic backgrounds.
TIMO Group | Eligible Students |
Kindergarten (KG) | Kindergarten students |
Primary 1 (P1) | Grade 1 |
Primary 2 (P2) | Grade 2 |
Primary 3 (P3) | Grade 3 |
Primary 4 (P4) | Grade 4 |
Primary 5 (P5) | Grade 5 |
Primary 6 (P6) | Grade 6 |
Secondary 1 (S1) | Grade 7 |
Secondary 2 (S2) | Grade 8 |
Secondary 3 (S3) | Grade 9 |
Senior Secondary (SS) | Grades 10, 11 & 12 |
Each group receives a separate question paper designed according to the mathematical knowledge and problem-solving abilities expected at that grade level. The exam focuses on five key areas: Logical Thinking, Arithmetic/Algebra, Number Theory, Geometry, and Combinatorics.
TIMO Benefits
- TIMO challenges students with non-routine mathematical problems that enhance logical reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical abilities beyond the regular school curriculum.
- Students compete with peers from different countries, allowing them to benchmark their mathematical abilities on a global platform and gain valuable international academic experience.
- Success in TIMO helps students overcome their fear of complex mathematical concepts and boosts their confidence in tackling challenging questions and competitive examinations.
- The exam covers key areas such as Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Number Theory, and Combinatorics, helping students develop a deeper understanding of mathematics that supports future academic success.
