What is HKIMO?

HKIMO, known as Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad, is an idea of conducting an olympiad by former Hong Kong Mathematical Olympiad Team,Team Leader Mr Wong Tin Chun. The objective to develop HKIMO is to promote Mathematical Olympiad all over the world. The examination paper is mainly divided into 5 sections: Logical Thinking, Arithmetic (Kindergarten / Primary Section) / Algebra(Secondary Section), Number Theory, Geometry & Combinatorics.

The motive behind HKIMO’s initiation was to promote Mathematical Olympiad in Hong Kong, to link ALL Maths-talent students together and to increase students’ interest on Mathematical Olympiad.

Eligibility for HKIMO

Students from Kindergarten to Senior Secondary level are eligible to participate in HKIMO. Different exam papers are designed according to the student’s academic level, ensuring age-appropriate challenges and fair competition.

HKIMO : MARK ALLOCATION

The HKIMO Exam is conducted in two different rounds – HEAT Round and Finals Round. The exam paper structure for both the rounds is as follows :

HEAT Round

Number of Questions is 25
Marks per question will be 4
Total score is 100
Time allowed is 1.5 hours (90 minutes)

FINAL Round

Number of Questions is 30
Marks per question will be 5
Total score is 150
Time allowed is 2 hours (120 minutes)

Gold Award	Top 20% (80th percentile and above)
Silver Award	Top 40% (60th percentile and above)
Bronze Award	Top 60% (40th percentile and above)
Merit Award	Top 80% (20th percentile and above)
Participation Certificate	All other participants
Champion Trophy	Highest scorer in each grade
1st Runner-Up Trophy	Second highest scorer in each grade
2nd Runner-Up Trophy	Third highest scorer in each grade

Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners receive medals and certificates, while other participants receive a certificate of participation.

Additional Recognition (Final Round)

World Star Trophy – Awarded to the highest scorer(s) from each country or region. Winners receive a registration fee waiver for the next HKIMO Final, subject to qualification through the Heat Round.
