INTERNATIONAL HINDI OLYMPIAD (IHO)
The SOF International Hindi Olympiad (IHO) is an annual academic competitive test organized by SOF for grade 3 to grade 10 students to analyze their knowledge and understanding skills in the Hindi language. The aim behind the test is to encourage students to build and showcase their skills in Hindi.

Registration Form
IHO has only one level for exam and conducted in the respective schools of the participants during school hours.
- There are 35 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 3 and class 4 and 50 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 5 to class 10 of 60 minutes duration.
- The question paper consists of three sections:
- Section 1: शब्द और व्याकरण बोध
- Section 2: रचनात्मक बोध
- Section 3: मेधावी खंड
- SOF conducts exam on three dates and each school may select a date for conducting the ISO as per their convenience. Question paper is different for each date of exam. SOF does not permit the change of date for conducting the exam.
- English is the Medium of the test.
- Test paper are prepared based on CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabus.
How to participate
Registration of Students
Student of class 3rd to 10th can participate in the exam.
Any school can be registered themselves as a center for SOF IHO Level 1 and there is no fee for the institution to become a registered examination centre.

What is SOF IHO?
The SOF International Hindi Olympiad (IHO) is a Hindi language competition conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) for students from Classes 1 to 10. It helps students improve their Hindi grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, and language skills.
Who can participate in SOF IHO?
Any student studying in Class 1 to Class 10 can participate in the SOF IHO through their school. Schools register interested students, making it easy for them to appear for the exam.
What is the syllabus for SOF IHO?
The SOF IHO syllabus is based on the Hindi curriculum followed by CBSE, ICSE/ISC, and State Boards. It includes grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, language skills, Logical Reasoning, and the Achievers Section. The syllabus varies according to the student's class.
Is there a Level 2 in SOF IHO?
No. SOF IHO has only one level of examination. Students from Classes 1 to 10 appear for Level 1, and there is no Level 2 for this Olympiad.
How are SOF IHO rankings decided?
SOF IHO rankings are based on the total marks scored in the exam. If two or more students score the same marks, SOF uses a tie-breaking process by comparing marks in important sections of the paper to determine the final rankings fairly.
How should students prepare for Hindi Grammar?
Students should first understand the basic grammar rules taught in school. Regular practice of व्याकरण (Grammar), शब्दावली (Vocabulary), अपठित गद्यांश (Reading Comprehension), and भाषा कौशल (Language Skills), along with solving sample papers and previous years' questions, can help improve accuracy and confidence.
Is NCERT sufficient for SOF IHO?
NCERT books provide a strong foundation, but they may not be enough for Olympiad preparation. Students should also practise Olympiad-level questions, sample papers, mock tests, and previous years' question papers.
